Beware, Stress Can Cause Constipation


Constipation is bowel disorder that can be excruciating. Various things can be triggers constipation. But do you know that stress can also trigger constipation.  Constipation is condition when you feel difficult to defecate (usually less than 3 times a week). This condition can cause fluid and toxins are absorbed into bloodstream and carried to all parts of the body.


Various things can cause constipation, but one cause is psychological or emotional stress. This is because stress can affect the nerves that control bowel function that causing constipation, as quoted from Lifemojo, Monday (05/07/2012).

Intestine is an extremely sensitive organ and can be influenced by various external influences, including anxiety and changes in routine. Stress that happens in long term can cause constipation.



Beside that, constipation can occur if you too busy and don't have time to go to toilet. So one way to overcome constipation is  reduce stress in life, eating enough fiber and not ignore the urge of the body to defecate.

There are three types of constipation that can be experienced :

  1. Acute constipationSudden changes in bowel movement that are usually become signal of serious problem in intestines such as colon tumor that requires medical attention.
  2. Chronic constipationChange in bowel movement for long periods of time which is usually due to lack of physical activity or wrong eating habits. 
  3. Severe constipationIf you only can defecate less than 1 time in a week, which usually requires examination and emptying of the colon. 

Some people that are kwown prone to constipation are elderly, pregnant women, frequent travelers (tourists), unhealthy lifestyles, junk food lovers, people who consume less fluid and patients who always be in bed.
